About the Podcast

  • This is History calling!

From the shattered streets of 1918 to the smoking ruins of 1945, Ordinary Lives, Extraordinary Times explores Germany not through the eyes of generals and dictators, but through the daily lives of ordinary people struggling to survive history as it unfolded around them. Workers, veterans, mothers, students, shopkeepers, artists, and laborers walk through the chaos of the Weimar Republic, the cultural explosion of the 1920s, political violence, and through the Third Reich.

Using primary accounts, diaries, newspapers, memoirs, and contemporary voices, the series examines how millions experienced fear, hope, humiliation, ambition, conformity, resistance, and survival during one of the most transformative periods in modern history.

    Together, let’s step into history!
