This podcast does not enshrine or promote National Socialism, fascism, alt-right, or MAGA philosophy.

Instead, I hope to enlighten the public about how everyday people like us lived and worked through one of the darkest periods of human history. The interwar years in Germany is incomparable to what my American countrymen experienced; the German endured Allied occupation, numerous armed revolts and insurrections, food insecurity, preventable epidemics, and political brawls…it was like the Wild West in many aspects.

Some of the individuals we will meet in our travels through Germany will succumb to the excitement and allow themselves to be seduced by extremism. Others will resist in one way or another. An even greater number will just do their best to live their lives and get by doing the bare minimum for the Nazis and the war effort later on.

I consider myself a pupil of the Enlightenment and a champion of the thoughts which emerged from the French Revolutions as to the role of government and universal the rights of Man.

But the liberal revolutions of 1848 were crushed in the German states. There were few notions of equality and fraternity among the social classes. The aristocracy held real power right up until 1918 when the German Revolution brought it crashing down.

That is my rambling for the day. This is Jay Daniels.

Long Live the Republic!
